Hair challenges for 2015

We all know our favourite hair bloggers from all over the world like hosting hair challenges throughout the year, these are mostly done to instill good hair habits, get some good growth rates and length retention and also create a hair community where participants can encourage each other. I have never participated in a hair challenge before *boo hoo* – the timing has never been right (like when I hear about the challenge, my hair is in a long term PS). Continue reading

I finally succumbed and bought JBCO

I have always been sceptical of Jamaican Black Castor Oil despite all the numerous evidence that is out there in the hair world about it’s miracle powers. See, my thinking was along the lines of: normal cold pressed, virgin castor oil can work just as well, and the price of JBCO put me off – especially here in South Africa. I have also been wary of ‘miracle’products in general – and have believed that consistency trumps any products on this here hair journey of mine. I mean, I used T444Z for 3 months and I didn’t see heaps of improved growth, but that is a story for another day. Continue reading

[completed] 30 days of water

I have finally completed the 30 days of water challenge. My main focus was to carry over my drinking water habits during the week over to the weekends which is when I really struggle to drink water because of lack of routine (or discipline).

I succeeded in drinking a minimum of 1 litre a day over 3 weekends, the one weekend I just fell off the wagon hard – but I didn’t let that get me down!

I am a regular water drinker – I usually get in 1 litre on a bad day and now since the hot weather is upon us (finally!), I will be upping my intake to 1.5 litres minimum.

Here are some of the ways that I ensure I drink water throughout the day:

  • In the morning I drink hot water with lemon for that extra kick
  • I carry around a water bottle which I fill in the morning
  • I drink water after each meal
  • I drink some water just before I go to sleep (I feel like it helps my body rejuvenate whilst I’m in lalaland)

Mini challenge: Inversion Method

I have only had my box braids for over a week and I am already bored *yawn* – I miss my hair now and I am slowly counting down to 4 weeks till I take them down.

In the meantime I have decided to set little challenges myself to keep myself motivated. This week I am starting with the inversion challenge which I am sure that everyone on their hair journey has heard about. I have done it a couple of times before and over those times I didn’t get the 1 inch (2.54 cm) growth promised. I think for me it’s more of getting in my regular scalp massages which I don’t do as often as I should.

I am going to be doing the inversion method for the next 7 days, till Sunday. I am using an oil mix that includes almost all the oils I have in my stash. My ‘base’oils were castor oil and coconut oil to which I added 10 drops of each of these oils: rosemary, lavender, peppermint, cedarwood and thyme essential oils.

Have any of you guys Β ever gotten a big growth spurt with the inversion method?

Update 09 December 2014

I managed to do the inversion for 5 out of the 7 days and I did get extra growth, but like I said I did not measure it so I don’t know much growth I got exactly. I plan to put this method on my monthly to do list.

30 days of water

I have decided to join the 30 days of water challenge

I already do drink a minimum of a litre of water per day during the week – but I always struggle to carry this momentum over to the weekends. I think this challenge will help me to get my weekend water intake on. So for the next 30 days, weekends included – I will drink a minimum of 1 litre of water.
