January Haul

I went a bit in this month in terms of the products that I bought, most of them were inexpensive, so I don’t feel too bad. Let’s get into it!

Seeing as I am planning to doing a lot of protective styling this year and wigging is one of them, this wig head was a must to get to keep my wigs in tip top shape. Isn’t she pretty? I might have to buy another one. I bought her for R75 at a shop at China Mall.

So for just under 2 weeks this month I travelled to Hanoi, Vietnam and Bangkok, Thailand. I was particularly excited about going to Bangkok because I had heard of the amazing choice in terms of everything like clothes, make-up etc that side of the world. I was a bit disappointed really, maybe I expected way too much – this is what I bought there, when I look at it now, I realise that it is very conditioner heavy.

wpid-20150128_162909.jpgThe holy grail of conditioners, the Herbal Essences Hello Hydration Moisturizing Conditioner for Dry/Damaged Hair. I’ve heard a lot about this product and sooo many healthy hair journey ladies rave about it, so I definitely had to get me some. I bought it at Boots for R53 per 300ml bottle.

Then I went a bit crazy at Watsons, which is like a Clicks/Dischem equivalent. I bought 3 different types of conditioners: Anti-Frizz Treatment Conditioner with Argan Oil, Volumizing Treatment Conditioner with Beer and Repairing Treatment Conditioner with Honey. I will most probably use them for co-washes and instant conditioning before my DC. I bought these for R30  for a 200ml bottle.

I went into Boots which is similar to Watsons but it is a UK shop, I picked up the Sun, Swim and Gym Conditioner which is designed to protect hair from salt, chlorine and UV damage. I am planning to get back into jogging again – so I am planning to use this conditioner for co-washes. The most expensive product that I bought was the Joico K-Pak Intense Hydrator Treatment for Dry, Damaged Hair, again I have heard good things about this product and the whole Joico range in fact. I bought it for R238 for a 250ml bottle. As a side note, Joico products are available in South Africa online and also in salons that deal mostly with Caucasian hair, I have seen the range at a few of the salons.

In a random supermarket in Hanoi I picked up this conditioner. It’s the Beer and Egg Yolk Hair Treatment Wax, I will use this as a deep conditioner. I can’t remember the price exactly, but it couldn’t have been more than R50 for 500ml.

wpid-20150128_163120.jpgAnd the product I am most excited about is this Zirana The Professional Steamer Cap – I’m not sure why they call it a steamer cap, but it is basically a cap with a heating coil inside that you plug in and it heats up. To me it seems like an electric blanket in a cap :). I have used it at my last wash day and it worked soooo well, in fact better than my soft hooded drier. It heats up very evenly and delivers a good amount of heat. I used it for 30 minutes and my hair was nice and warm afterwards. I bought it for R210. Just a quick question: why aren’t they selling these in South Africa?!?! because I feel that using heat to prepoo and DC is such a game changer in any healthy hair journey – I definitely saw the difference in my hair once I started using heat.

I also picked up a short bob style wig which I will be using to PS in the next week.

So that is it for January – after this massive haul (in my books) – I am staying away from the shops for the forseeable future. I really don’t need any more products for a while…except maybe a moisturiser :). Now I am so glad I don’t have to do a make-up haul post because I went waaaay overboard there *blush*

The wig doll looks cute lol. Yay to the product haul, the one I’m most interested in is the Joico K-pak.
I also used to live in SA and it was so frustrating, product ranges and hair equipment is limited 😦
